I was really excited to read this story. It had elements that I just love... western, post-apocalyptic, librarians. Except that even though those things were in the book, they were barely sprinkled throughout. Except for the western part where there is a lot of that in the book. There is not much of a plot, not much of a background, not much of story really. This book is mainly character driven. If you find yourself fancying the characters, you'll probably fancy the book. Unfortunately, I did not. I could not understand how Esther could be torn up about her lover being killed and then turn around and crave another character. I thought Bet and Leda were okay but there was no attachment there. Cye just came off as bullying and mean. It wasn't until the very end that their character turned out better. As for Amity, I couldn't stand her. She came off as very self righteous. The premise for this book was awesome. Just wish it dealt more with the librarian/post-apocalyptic part of the story.
