This was a page turning quick read that I had a hard time putting down, but I think it might feel strange if you haven't read the other Arcane Society books. It's not that you'd be lost in the plot, but that her references to characters from previous books is probably a lot more fun if you've read them! I enjoy the "superpowers" she gives her heroes and bad guys, but understand that it may be too out there for some readers.
