There are soooo many books about the paranormal out there; some are filled with angst, death, having to read to book 3 before there's a resolution other than just sex between the main characters, or it's so very filled with the technical details of weapons & ways to kill creatures that the reader could do it themselves should they suddenly be dropped in a world where those creatures exist, but this book was a nice, light, fast read that still had plenty of info, action & sex without being bogged down with it.
Sam runs her family's paranormal bustin' company (after her parent's early deaths due to a Godzilla incident), & she's very good at it, having made a great name & reputation for themselves. Suddenly, she finds her job & her reputation being challenged & unfairly sabotaged by a new company run by 3 brothers.
A case of deception & mistaken identity, with more than a smidgen of revenge mixed in on both sides during a busting job leaves her feeling used, tricked, & dumped. When head brother Nicholas realizes that the whole mess was really not Sam's fault, he does the best he can to make sure she doesn't walk away from him; they head to NY to hunt a supernatural nasty that happens to be turning women to stone.
The reader may find themselves frustrated with the characters at times later in the book; he tries to make her jealous & Sam more or less gnashes her teeth. I would have given it a full 4 stars, but in those later chapters, I personally felt like her strong character put up with too much considering that Nicholas was to be earning her forgiveness. To balance out the small rut she stuck us in with the jealousy stuff, the author gave us some good action, some great insight into the brothers, some humor, & then kept the ball rolling until the end.
