A young Amish man does not marry the woman that he loves, but feels like he needs to marry someone's daughter he owes.His wife gives birth to twins, not his and dies shortly afterward and he and his Brother take care of them when they are not working.They move and who lives next door but the girl he wanted to marry.She tends the twins while he works even though she is angry and hurt. Can the two of them love bastard twins that neither are. the parents of.? This is a most interesting book. These twins are slow developing, cry all the time, always stinky and messy, screaming for attention, not good babies, they can not drink formula, the dad has to find someone who sells goats milk for them. They are a trial and given the circumstances they would be difficult to bond with. It makes it harder because the dad did not love the mother and she always loved and wanted the English boyfriend who got her pregnant. This is a most interesting story. well told and well developed.
