This is one of those books that I call women's fiction. Cathryn Deen, the world's most beautiful woman, was in front of the cameras since she was a toddler and suddenly she's a scarred mess and hidden away from the world. Of course, there also has to be the tortured male who's living like a hermit in the backwoods of North Carolina. After all, what kind of romance could it possibly be without a special hero for the terrified heroine?

Throw in a couple of lesbians, a nasty ex-sister-in-law (to maintain the torture), a grandmotherly type to pull everyone up by their bootstraps, a couple of orphaned girls, a slew of orphaned/handicapped pets and don't forget to toss in a lot of religious psychobabble to sweeten the pot. Now you have a heartbreaker guaranteed to keep the tears flowing.

I picked this up because I liked Deborah Smith's WaterLilies Series and I wasn't aware that this was "women's fiction". I didn't expect to like this book because it's not really my kind of thing but I admit that I did enjoy it. I will also admit to skipping certain sections (really only a few pages) but all in all it was a great story.
