First few pages were just awful--la la land snobful of food, description of ridiculous things. After being a writer so long you'd think she'd figure out what a good first paragraph is. I don't care that she uses agave nectar in an espresso. I almost gave up after 10 pages. However the story did pick up and she seemed to do better. I stuck with the complicated, mixed up plot that eventually melded into a story of sorts. Let's hear less food and drink and more of substantive mystery. I'm not invested in a Kay Scarpetta living in la la land with her nose up in the air.
