Beautifully written and very thoughtful account of actor Alan Cumming's difficult childhood, and ultimate triumph over the demons of his past, both personally and professionally.

Just trying to find the right words for what the child Alan and his family endured is a challenge: to call it "difficult" is almost an insult. But Cumming manages to exorcise the demons with sharp writing and even humor. I have been a big fan of Cummings for a long time. (I remember discovering him in a graveyard-shift, ultra-low-budget BBC sit-com called "The High Life" back in the early 90s, and thinking that this was a young man to watch out for.)

Reading about the horrible start in life he had to endure makes his talent and achievements all the more remarkable -- and makes me love him, and his wonderful roles, all the more.
