I am so excited when I have the newest Pendergast in my hand, it's like getting a box of candy! I can hardly wait to read about the eccentric, superman-like FBI Agent and his ward the lovely. old fashioned Constance. I love the sexual tension between the two of them, which was almost acted upon, but alas didn't happen much to Constance's (and my) dismay.

The story started out interesting as Constance and Pendergast agree to solve the theft of a rare wine collection, which turns into a murder mystery when they discover a skeleton hidden in the wall of the basement where the wine was stolen. The small town of Exmouth, MA along with the mud flats, marshes and rising tides made the story involving its inhabitants and the possibility of witches quite exciting and then all seemed to come together.

SLIGHT SPOILER
I realized about one third of the book was left! Now what? The storyline became a horror story with a monster on the loose which killed and ate the victims! Eventually it tied in with what had happened previously, and I'm sure it was done to put Pendergast in a dire live or die situation which one has to wait for the next book of the series. One more thing, it looks like his hated brother may not be dead after all.
