It's a good read - more like her Exotique Summoning books in overall feeling rather than her Celta Heart books. In this strongly fantasy shaded view of contemporary America - you find that politics [and politicians] are just as self serving, prejudice is alive and well and that 'but what have you done for us lately?' is the order of the day. If this isn't depressing enough, the heroine is still deeply grieving the loss of her entire family while they were helping the powers-that-be accomplish their goals.
Given that start, the mood of the heroine [and the book] can only improve. And you really want it to improve for her - you're out there cheering her every step, urging her to say goodbye to her past and hello to her future. And she does - and finds new friends and old, a new role in the magical realms, and finally accepts her losses and releases her guilt. And, of course, she finds true love...
More books must be planned - nobody does this amount of world building without planning a series.
