I think this is my favorite Teresa Medeiros book of the four I have read. It is marginally based on the beauty and the beast premise: the hero is posing as a dragon to scare his mid-18th century village into confessing to a terrible crime; the heroine a virgin given to the "dragon" as a sacrifice.
While I thought her family and the village treated Gwendolyn horribly and made you question why she would be at all loyal to them, Medeiros does establish an interesting heroine and a unique hero whom she never sees for the first half of the book.
The romance is nice, some steamy love scenes, a good secondary character in the mix. I liked that while Gwendolyn is only 24 years old, she is considered very long in the tooth, where most women (girls) are married in their mid-teens.
