This is the second in the Inspector Gamache series. I liked it better than the first. An egotistical self-proclaimed guru dies at a curling match in Three Pines, Quebec. No one sees a thing. Or do they? Gamache solves this seemingly impossible murder with his own style of compassion and grace. You do need to read the first one to understand the dynamics among the characters and the subplots.
