The back cover says: "Somehow, when we don't want to hear things or are afraid to believe what we hear, it takes forever b efore we give in. This wasn't the first time I had told my husband that my interest was in other women, not in other men. But this seemed to be the first time he had ever taken it in. At least two years earlier, after reading a book about lesbians, I had remaked casually to him that possibly I'd made a mistake, possibly I should have lived my life as a lesbian. To my surprise, Russ responded instantly, firmly, 'It's still not too late.'

'Startled, I'd laughed. 'Oh, come on, i'm almost fifty. Of course it's tooo late.'

'Scowling, Russ walked over to me, took hold of my shoulders, and looked directly down into my eyes. 'I never want to hear you say that agian. It's never too late to do anything you really want to do.'"
