I read this in one day. It's not my favorite Breeds story, but it's ok. I've read the Breeds stories out of order, but I wasn't terribly lost or confused by the storyline. Mark is a human with some lion DNA. He's a Breed. Breeds are created, not born. They're also subject to heinous conditions in the labs that created them. Raised to be a super soldier, Mark still manages to have humor, fun, and an easy going way about him. Megan is not as likable. I didn't find her remotely exciting or interesting. She seemed too emotional. One thing I didn't understand is how she uses his "emotional shields" to protect her empathic abilities. Why does he have emotional shields? He's a Breed, not an empath like Megan.

The romance here is red hot, and if you get embarassed by sexually explicit scenes, you'll need to stay away from this book. It's definitely for adults only.

The back cover says this is the first in the series, but it's not. It's the first in the series published by this particular company. There are other books in the series preceding this one, but again, if you haven't read those, you're not going to be terribly lost. This story could almost stand on its own.
