This is Book 3 of the Bright Empires Series.

This series continues to build in complexity, intrigue, and importance. We are now starting to see some of the broader implications of repeated ley leaping in the way that characters are interfering with time (including their own) and what that means for the reader (ie: dont try too hard to keep everything straight, it will only make your head hurt).

After a pretty stable cast, Lawhead introduces a new character in the form of paleontologist Cassandra Clarke. This book was set up as an introduction for her, and the seeds of her development as what I assume to be a major player in this plot are just being sown.

The continued glimpses into the lives of the Flinders-Petrie family are just as interesting as they are heartbreaking. It is sad to see how far Arthurs family has fallen, and I am curious to see where Lawhead is leading Douglas in his own quest for answers.

This has been a ride well worth taking, and I continue to look forward to the next book in the series.
