I first read Jon Katz's books about dogs - such as "Orson: the Story of a Good Dog" and "The Dogs of Bedlam Farm". That took me to "Running to the Mountain". Then I decided to try one of his earlier books in a different genre and so I read this book. I am so glad that I decided to try it! He writes an interesting murder mystery that kept me guessing until close to the end, but intersperses a good bit of personal reflection on life. I felt like the main character, Kit, was close to Jon's own persona - a suburban husband/father that just doesn't fit the mold and has to forge a different identity for himself. It was a quick read that still had depth. I'm planning to order the other suburban detective books in the series now.
