The Florida panther is a subspecies of the mountain lion. They are gone from the eastern US, except for Florida.One interesting fact about the Florida Panther is that they only breed every 24 months. The kittens stay with their mother for about eighteen months, after which they find their own territory. This is just in time for the mother to start another family.

There are only about 120 Florida Panthers left and they are highly endangered. They live in the Everglades. They are meat-eaters and are at the top of the food chain, so they have no animals that prey on them.

This is an interesting book about an endangered animal of the US.
