This was a good book, despite the ending slowing waaaaaay down, as others have stated. After all this lead-up, twisting and turning, agony and betrayal, you would expect a BLOW OUT, but instead you get a fizzle. The characters are not likeable, but they aren't supposed to be! You are not meant to love these people and want to invite them into your home! You are meant to root for their vicious demise!
The writing, however, was superb. Flynn has an extreme eye to detail, and when reading the book you really have to pay attention because there are SO many MINUTE details that came back in a big way. She obviously took her time and really planned out this story. Which almost makes the ending more of a disappointment, since it had such a great lead up. Do not let the possible let down of an ending (everyone has their own opinion!) stop you from reading Gone Girl: it is wonderfully written, and very suspenseful. Not my normal genre at all, but I am glad I dipped into it!
