Mildly wicked and naughty writing for kids to devour. Does not try to 'be good' in proscribed ways. The book has a little swearing and some of the characters- adults, not kids-encounter friendly people of a nudist colony. Lots of fun, quirky characters, and a sense of a full story well told.
Now for real facts about the story itself: aunts on island of magical creatures need help: they kidnap children. Some of the children enjoy themselves, others do not. Trouble ensues. Complications arise. Other people show up. The island and the aunts and their magical creatures are threatened by the outside world. Things slowly start to work out- the characters use their wits, any item at hand, and all luck that comes their way. Courtroom drama. Lots of commentary on modern life. Fun and satisfying ending.
See? No spoilers.
