I did not like the book at all. I found the character development and writing very uneven, the prose acidic and the setting out of season with its times. However, I belong to a book group and quite a few people thought it was superb in all the ways I disliked it, probably because they accepted some basic premises about the author's motivation which I did not. They thought it was a perfectly crafted piece of work, whereas I felt it was out of control, a very rough first draft that might have flown had it been worked over. It does have its moments. But clearly the Booker committee felt it deserved serious praise and so do many others. Didn't find a lot of critical reviews online so you take your chances here.
