Both these authors write really good books and collaborate well. Which is amazing, as they are married to each other. :-) Fans of their 19th century "Carpenter and Quincannon" series will enjoy this book as one of those detectives plays a major role here.

This is the third and last book in a three-book series. But it might just as well have been a stand alone novel. I liked it that any reference to events in the two previous books is quickly explained by the authors in a paragraph or two. Many other authors use several pages to do so.

Multi-chapter sections flip back and forth between 1894 and 1986. Fortunately, readers don't get confused with what is happening. The ending was a surprise to me, as I didn't see it coming.
