Since it was written in 1991, this book is somewhat dated. For example, the index does not even contain a listing for "genetically modified" or "GMO" foods. And the ratings of specific supermarket chains would most likely no longer be applicable. But there is still lots of useful information in this book: discussions about packing, labeling, how our purchases affect the environment, and pesticides and poisons. Also, some of the information makes you wonder what has happened: for example, the discussion of the effort put into developing biodegradable baby diapers. Whatever happened to that? There are also checklists and suggestions that are just as useful now as ever, for those wanting to be more "green" in their shopping and in the products they choose to use in the home.
