This book has been hyped as both a great book and an awful book. It is neither of these things. It is a teen supernatural romance, not terribly well written, but with some potential in the backstory material that is not, sadly, realized fully. The mythology of the book is not well-developed because all the focus is on the romance, a term I use loosely. The writing is such that it may pull you in on the first reading, but subsequent readings become dull and grating. If you're looking for a fairly mindless supernatural romance, look no further. If you're looking for a decent fantasy or . . . well, really a decent anything, look somewhere else.
