Okay, first I'll say it's a good STORY and that's pretty much the only reason I stuck with almost 600 pages.
It's just terrible WRITING. If you don't know already, Larsson died of a sudden heart attack at 50 and these novels were found on his computer. I really believe that, had he been alive to work with an editor, this would have ended up a MUCH better 300-page book. There's at least 200 pages of unnecessary exposition that ended up taking the story absolutely no where. Oddly, one of the few times Larsson slows down enough to actually describe something, it's for a very violent and graphic rape scene that does NOTHING to further the story.
This is a rare time that I think the movie will actually be better than the book.
