First read Crystal Dreams in the Nocturnal antholgy and decided I'd like to read the other DemonSlayer novels.
I enjoyed the novella more, possibly because it was shorter. This full-length novel was a bit too slow-moving and repetitive for me (and it took place over only a week). Every night Dax, Alton, Eddie, Ed (Eddie's father), Willow (a tiny fairy-like creature), and Bumper (a stray dog Eddie took in) went out to hunt and (they hoped) slay demons. Everynight it was the same old, same old. Rarely was anything new learned from the very first night.
Normally takes me 1-2 days to finish a novel; took me a month to get through this one. I kept putting it down and starting something different.
I think I would have enjoyed it more as a novella.
I will read at least the next 2, as I already have them. Here's hoping they are more exciting.
