Humanity thinks it is the only intelligent species in our Galaxy. Boy, were they wrong. Excellent First Contact story with a 17-year-old female as the lead character. This is book one of a series in which apparently all can stand alone.
I chuckled when reading about the female author saying that as a young girl she had a horrible day at the library when she realized she had read all the books about horses. So she looked at other books and found one with a space ship on its cover. She started reading it and was hooked on Sci-Fi.
