Haunt Couture and Ghosts Galore is the 3rd installment in the Haunted Vintage Mystery series. The series centers around Cassandra "Cookie" Chanel and her vintage clothing store It's Vintage Y'all in Sugar Creek, Georgia.
Cookie has agreed to help out Melanie Lee, an up and coming designer at a fashion show pairing Melanie's new designs with Cookie's vintage accessories. Thinking the additional exposure would be good for her boutique Cookie is trying her best to ignore the rude demands of both Melanie and the snooty runway models. After witnessing a particularly nasty spat between Melanie and top model Hannah O'Neil, she isn't all too surprised to find Hannah standing over Melanie's dead body in the back alley.
Cookie's ever present ghostly sidekick turned best friend Charlotte Meadows appears at her elbow along with the dashing Samuel Sanders. Samuel is also a ghost who claims that he had been working as a private detective in the mid 1940's, when he was murdered by his partner. Samuel has an attachment to his Fedora and can't seem to move on to the afterlife without his trusty hat.
With the two ghosts and her psychic cat Wind Song, Charlotte sets out to discover who killed Melanie. Hunky Detective Dylan Valentine, lawyer Ken Harrison and her best friend/fellow shopkeeper Heather Sweet are back to assist Charlotte in her investigation.
This book was a VERY quick read. The characters are fun and the dialogue witty but anyone looking for a serious cozy mystery will be disappointed. The mystery seems to come to an abrupt end in the last couple of pages, as if the author simply got tired of telling the story. I'm hoping that the next in the series will include a little more about Sam since the reader is left with too many unanswered questions regarding his demise, and wondering what was the point of his even being introduced into the series.
I like this series only because of the characters and find the books good for a few laughs when looking to whittle away a few hours on a rainy day.
