These are absolutely beautiful stories each and every one. Carla Kelly creates stories with the most unlikely people and situations. Although Im not a Regency fan, I couldnt put this book down. These stories are emotional and uplifting.
THE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT Two fathers decide to encourage a possible marriage between a focused scholar and an intense, book-loving young woman.
James Enders is shocked and upset when Olivia makes valid and insightful corrections to his masterful treatise. He soon finds that there are plenty of other men who recognize Olivias value. Although more educated, James comes to recognize that he just might not be the more intelligent of the pair!
MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE Christmas is a difficult time for the Chard family; Peters loss of his wife seems greater during yuletide. Not far away, he hears that a foreigner has come to the area after losing her husband; she is pregnant and her husbands family does not want her.
Peter Chard is a very special man. His grief and that of his children help them to accept this foreigner into their lives and hearts. He does this in spite of his mothers and the area neighbors reactions.
THE OBJECT OF CHARITY I enjoyed this story the most after I got over the possible age difference between the hero and heroine. Because Michael Lynch (ships captain of a ship now in dry dock) needs somewhere to take a pair of orphans (related to his recently deceased first mate), he decides to take them to his mothers home.
The reader soon learns that Michael hasnt been home for 22 years because of a terrible fight between himself and his older brother. Although he is not expecting a friendly welcome Michael soon learns that his mother has been waiting with Christmas for him each of the past years.
THE THREE KINGS I believe this is the most unusual Christmas story Ive ever read. The Spaniard Three Kings procession was deftly merged into this story of war-time suffering.
Each story emphasized an aspect of Christmas that Ive not experienced. This book is well worth reading at any time of the year.
