Good read - action plot. Tryton, Cady, and Sid have bit parts but it is the story of Pulse, a council member, who goes to familiarize himself with the surface world. He needs to find proof that humans are worth saving. He finds that truth in Luna, a psychic who can see the future but has never been able to change it, but still keeps trying. Together, however, they CAN change it...

From just reading a few pages of Caress of Flame, I'd say these are not order dependent - but you might be pretty lost if you haven't read at least some of the Horde Wars.
