ISBN 0448431807 - Only a Little Engine That Could fan, one who's already been disappointed by a book like ISBN 0448405091 The Little Engine That Could: Let's Sing ABC (The Little Engine That Could) (A Lift-the-Flap Alphabet Book), could possibly know the relief I felt when I found this book. Watty Piper's original Little Engine has been restored in my eyes and I couldn't be happier.

The Little Engine goes along with Piney Vale's second-grade class on a trip to the safari zoo. While they're there, a baby elephant is discovered to be missing. Can the Little Engine help get the baby back to her mother? I think she can!

Author Monique Z. Stephens is my hero. The story is suspenseful and exciting and she captures the Little Engine perfectly. Illustrations by Jose Maria Cardona are bright and colorful, and very expressive - 100% awesome! This is a team I'd like to see more from, but I may be prejudiced in my joy at finding a Little Engine story that is good enough to sit side-by-side on my shelf with Piper's book.
