The first in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Sookie, a cocktail waitress in a small town in north Louisiana has a gift. Or curse, depending on your point of view. She can read minds. Then one evening, Bill, the vampire walks into her bar and orders a bottle of synthetic blood. Sookie's life just took a major change. It seems she can't read the minds of vampires. Soon she is embroiled in a romance with Bill and then with vampires in general. This is a wonderful series that just keeps getting stronger and stronger as it goes.
