Final in the Ashfall trilogy. It's okay, never going to be one of the classics of post-apoc, but not bad. Nice themes of never giving up, reconciliation and forgiveness, inventiveness. As an adult I find a lot of eye-rolling moments. The dialogue can get really cheesy. Mullin has an annoying habit of ending a chapter on a cliffhanger, which is dramatic when done on a TV show, but in a book your eye just moves to the next page. I liked Alex's determination and Darla's inventiveness, even though I was laughing at the idea a teenage farm girl knows how to rewire a wind turbine. There's a pretty disturbing scene about halfway through, due to Alex's dumb habit of making a terrible enemy and then leaving him (or her) alive even though he ought to know better by now. But that does speak well to his continuing humanity, he hasn't turned barbarian I guess. I would have liked to see his taekwondo evolving more prominently afterwards, that could have been an interesting part of the plot. All in all, decent series, good world-building, decent characters, so-so dialogue.
