Having never read a John Grisham novel before about anything, "Playing for Pizza" is a good, light read that serves as an accurate microcosm of what life might be like for a journeyman NFL quarterback...who, in this case, had fallen upon the hardest professional times possible. A good un-ugly American abroad story that gives the reader a flavor of what a real Italy is all about with its colorful and its got-a-bear-hug-on-life people. Overall, it made me hugely hungry for great authentic Italian food and giving me a longing to visit the cradle of civilization where life is lived to its fullest, not endured.
