This book describes a marriage between two people who never examined their lives closely before they married, (and how they change after they finally do). This is a lovely story, a little melancholy but filled with delicate touches of beauty and wisdom. Edith Wharton is better known for THE AGE OF INNOCENCE and THE HOUSE OF MIRTH -- this book is not as well known as these, but it should be. I found it a page-turner.
