Every time I thought the story would follow a predictable course, the plot twisted and turned in directions that made this tale so very interesting. Yes, we romance fans have surely read the familiar plot several times over about the sacrificial heroine who agreed to bed the hero to pay off some family member's debt. But it was Sidonie's and Jonas's characterizations that set this one apart from the pack. After witnessing her sister's abusive marriage, Sidonie was dead set against marriage. Jonas was hideously scarred and very bitter about his bastardy. As it turned out, Sidonie held the key to what could save the lives of the two people she loved most. All together these elements created situations that would in turn melt your heart, twist in anguish, gasp in relief, cry in despair, and cheer in delight as this amazing couple worked their way to a HEA. The sensuality revealed deep-seeded shame and heartbreaking insecurities, and their stories will touch your heart. The only thing I found distracting was having to keep a dictionary at hand to look up all the ten-dollar words the author used, which weren't necessary. Otherwise, the story was beautifully done. Make the time to read this one. 4.5 stars.
