This is a quick overview of Marlene Dietrich's life and films. I'm surprised to see how very few films she was in, considering her mystique and iconic reputation. I think it made a big difference that she came to the US already a star -- thus, she didn't have to do the drama classes and minor films, as the minor stars honed their skills.

She's always been a fascinating character because she protected her image so carefully. I was surprised to learn how she lived in her declining years.
