Alexandra has waited for seven years for the man she insists she loves to return for her. Meanwhile, all of her family and friends tell her that she doesn't really love him. Exasperated, her father forges a betrothal contract with the son of his best friend, who died 15 years before, and mails a letter to the widow asking when the contract will be honored. Vasili Petroff is amazed to hear he has been betrothed for 15 years, and determines that he will be as obnoxious as he can be, so that Alexandra will break off. Alexandra is playing the same game, and both are determined not to be married. Enjoyed it very much. Nice read.
