#2 Chintz n China mystery featuring tea shop owner/tarot reader Emerald O'Brien. Immediately after doing a reading for a walk-in client during which Emerald got some bad vibes, the client is run over in the street in front of the shop when Em hails him because he forgot a parcel in the shop. The mysterious client asks Emerald to keep the parcel and then dies, and she unwraps it to find a gorgeous carved jade dragon. Shortly after, a series of bad-luck events plague the O'Brien family, with the store being broken into, Miranda's new, expensive telescope falling from the roof, Kip slicing his finger open, etc. It's up to Emerald to find out what's going on. The mystery was rather obvious and I grew weary of Emerald's Stephanie Plum-esque angst over which of two men to choose, but still quite an enjoyable, quick read as I do like the characters.
