I liked all of this authors viking books, they are interesting and they bring alittle something different to the general captive story, this book being the forth in the series i would recommend you read the first three first but it could be a stand alone if you can ignore some of the dialouge between the secondary characters, but you will get so much more out of it if you read it as a set.
