This is the first book I have read by Byrd. It reminds me a lot of Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underword and Keri Arthur's Riley Jansen series. There is some humour between the characters and the side characters definitely spark an interest. I look forward to finding more out about them in future books. There is a lot of groups to read about and it can be overwhelming, but she does explain who everyone is plus there is a handy dandy glossary in the book.
Like Showalter's series, it is more about the two main characters overcoming their issues to be together rather than the bigger plot of fighting among the different groups.
There are not a lot of sex scenes but for what there are, they are towards the explicit side. There is also some harsh language so if you are into flowery romances, this isn't for you. Otherwise it is a easy, enjoyable read and I can't wait to find more books by her.
