In reading the Titan series, I found out much by mistake that stuck in the middle of that series was the Destiny trilogy. You can not skip this book as it carries the story from the Titan series.

As I heard this was a continuation of the "Next Generation" time line I was excited, at first. My next discovery about the Destiny books was a spices I have never liked in the Star Trek plots - Borg. An overused, tired subject. I was disappointed to say the least.

David Mack has, however, put together a great plot and even with the Borg the other stories in this book could stand on its own. Learning about the NX-02, a new race with technology that is new yet familiar, the progression of the Titan crew, all good reading each on their own. I at times feel that D.Mack has established characters acting out of their personalities. So much so in fact at one point during book 1 and 2 of the Destiny series I said out loud, "No, that [character] would NEVER say that!"

This book is good, and is a must read. However, if you are not up to yet another tired story of the Borg and are not reading the Titan series, then you could skip this.

I will say one thing about this author's writing toward the Borg, they are showing a "new" side that hasn't been seen to-date.
