Bob Hass, the editor and not the author of this anthology, remains one of the better poets both in taste and in product presently writing on the West Coast of the United States. His experience of inter-personal pain has intensified his sensitivity to others' poems and makes his choice for this anthology, a major gift for the reader.

Do not eat all the poems in this volume at one sitting or you will end up like me--over-weight and lethargic.

But do get a copy of this volume for the assortment of different tastes held within its crunchy cover.
