This is a long essay about the author's struggle continuous struggle with her now-deceased mother. Her writing is beautiful, yet brutally honest. Even though her mother had been dead for years, she was unable to exorcise the haunting of her lingering memories of a cold woman who was never pleased with her daughter. She deals with depression and anorexia, and I felt suffocated by the emotions it brought up in me. Difficult to read; I'm glad it was so short. But I am also glad I read it. As a fan of Kathryn Harrison, it helps me to understand this endlessly deep woman.
