A fun, entertaining, fast-paced mystery about an unlikely relationship between a telepathic Louisiana barmaid and a vampire from the Old South who moves back home to his old town. I've read other vampire stories, but this was so unlike any of the vampire stories out there. The vampires in this series are more or less integrated into modern society. They drive cars. They use telephones. They even appear on the Oprah show to bemoan their allergies to sunlight, garlic, and silver. They socialize. Some of them live openly amongst us. They order synthetic blood when they "eat out. But of course "unfortunate incidents" (i.e. biting) still happens, and this story has quite a bit of that, and more.
