I tried, I really did, to at least get to the point in the story where the "pariah" shows up, but it was so offensive that I had to give up. I made it to chapter 10.

The descriptions of survivors' deteriorated states just six weeks after the zombie overrun read like crass locker-room talk, with much made of women's desiccated breasts and mangy pubic hair. There was at least one comparison to concentration camp victims ("Ellen's bodywas a sort of hot emaciated-supermodel Buchenwald kind of sexiness").

And then there was just terrible, terrible writing reinforcing the general bad taste. I may have an article or two out of place here, but one line ran approximately like this: "she kicked the bucket, which was quite a feat considering she had no feet." (Yes, the dead person described here literally didn't have feet.)

One of the sometimes unfortunate aspects of electronic books is that they will tell you exactly how much time you spent reading something. In this case, I wish I could get 1.4 hours of my life back.
