There was a lot about this memoir that is easy to appreciate, including the eyewitness testimony of the developing gay rights movement through the eyes of a child growing up within it, the glimpses of how the AIDS epidemic impacted communities and families alike, and the distinctive character of a girl being raised by a single gay father. I had trouble getting into it at times, but would still consider it to be an incredibly useful read, and a good reminder of a time not long past.
