I've read this type of plot before: warring highlander (is there ever any other kind?) seeking vengeance, who kidnaps the betrothed of his enemy. However, it's still entertaining due mostly to our hero, Duncan aka "the Butcher", who grapples with an unfamiliar, soul-stirring goodness underneath his fury. Lady Amelia is convinced his goodness is an innate part of him (as all good heroines do) and tries to get Duncan to see this side of himself. Things get a little tricky for him though when Amelia throws down her ultimatum, but I thought the symbolism of Duncan's transformation and eventual self-realization was nicely done. I do like plenty of heated (and explicit) encounters in my romance, and in this respect the story fell a little short, but in all else you'll get a wonderful escape with a sexy highlander who lives a double life. 3.8 stars.
