Not my most favorite Mary Stewart, mostly because I don't find the telepathy thing believable as she writes it, and I can't really identify with Bryony. I am pretty sure I could not be so forgiving to the person who ran over and killed my father (okay, that's a spoiler, but this book is like 40 years old). Bryony seems upset and then it's "well he feels bad, so that's okay". Bryony tells us how upset she is about all that's happening, we hear it over and over, but somehow I just couldn't feel it. Oh well. Stewart's setting is wonderful of course, we can see clearly the crumbling estate and beautiful countryside. It's still clearly a Mary Stewart book and so worth reading.
