It's a satisfying ending to the story, but it's not a very satisfying book about Valentine. He spends most of the book whining about the situation, not taking much action, and avoiding what really has to be done. It's not until the very end that he does anything decisive, and we're not sure why except that an old woman told him a vision. Hissune, who we met in Majipoor Chronicles, is now a force to be reckoned with. I'm sure this was Silverberg's intent, as Valentine must go into the Labyrinth as Pontifex, and the new Coronal will be the one to take action. But it makes for a rather boring story. The sights of Majipoor are still pretty good although in a couple points I was irresistably reminded of Dr. Seuss.
P.S. On 11/18/2019 I put in an edit to this book's data - the description is that of Sorcerors of Majipoor.
