There is a lot to enjoy about this debut novel. It's a modern-day political thriller with a dual timeline involving the United States and several foreign governments.

The author does an outstanding job describing the climate in the Arctic, living on an icebreaker trying to reach a marooned submarine with many of the remaining crew members injured or seriously ill. Descriptions for the settings and the cast of characters are written so well, it's easy to visualize exactly what's happening and the plot moves along quickly.

Throughout the book, Joe Rush is faced with making a difficult moral decision several times: Does saving many justify the death of a few?

If you enjoy books written by Tom Clancy or Martin Cruz-Smith, you might like this Joe Rush series.
