A very interesting series of stories which really change what we've believed over the centuries. Still, since you should never believe everything you read, I'm going to check some of these stories against their related pages in Wikipedia.
I suspect much of what is described in the book is true. But some of our "legends" are so dear to us, we don't want to hear anything which discredits them. As a reporter states in one of the final scenes of the movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," "When the legend (i.e., fiction) become fact, print the legend."
If you love reading history as I do, you will enjoy reading this book. You don't have to believe any of it, but it is entertaining reading.
